Canadian Dimension Magazine
Founded in 1963 by Cy Gonick, Canadian Dimension is a magazine which shows there is an alternative to the corporate agenda and the dictates of the global market; that the dream of a better society is still alive. It provides a forum for debate, where red meets green, feminists take on socialists, socialists take on social democrats, whites hear from aboriginals, activists report from all corners of Canada, trade unionists report from the front lines, campaigns make connections, and the latest books, films, web sites, CDs, and videos are radically reviewed.

Mondragón Bookstore & Coffeehouse
Mondragon is a political bookstore and vegan restaurant located in Winnipeg’s historic exchange district. The word Mondragon comes from the Euskadi (Basque) town of the same name meaning “Dragon Mountain” in English. Located in Northern Spain, Mondragon – or Arrasate in the Basque language – is known for its extensive network of workers’ cooperatives, and has been the subject of numerous books and articles.
Inspired by this and many other examples of alternative economics and workplace democracy, our bookstore and coffeehouse is organized as a workers collective. We have no manager, and all worker members, regardless of starting skill or seniority, earn the same rate of pay. We call ours a “participatory” workplace – after the participatory economic model developed by co-authors Robin Hahnel and Michael Albert – and we feel that this structure is consistent with anarchist and libertarian socialist principles.

Named after the German anarchist Rudolf Rocker, who fled Nazi Germany in 1933, and who lectured widely in North America (including dozens of talks in Winnipeg between 1913 and his death in 1958), “the Rocker” functions as both a gallery and multi-purpose venue for social, political, and cultural events of interest to the anarchist, activist, and wider Winnipeg community. Anyone interested in booking space or curating an event — including music, art and photo exhibits, film screenings, political speakers, poetry slams, theatre, activist and technical workshops, or any other type of content — is invited to contact us.

Winnipeg Copwatch
Winnipeg Copwatch believes that police brutality and misconduct are rights violations that no one should experience or tolerate. Formed in August 2006, Winnipeg Copwatch is an independent collective of volunteers working to end police brutality and misconduct in Winnipeg. We regularly patrol Winnipeg’s streets by car, bike, and on foot, observing and videotaping police interactions with the public without interfering with the police. Our goal on patrols is to deter rather than document police violence. Winnipeg Copwatch organizes Know Your Rights workshops to inform people of their rights when interacting with police. We host and participate in public events to encourage critical thinking about systemic discrimination and the role of police in society. We facilitate sharing circles to create safer spaces in which to tell stories and listen to people’s experiences of police abuse. In July of 2011, we held the Second International Copwatching Conference, featuring such people as Jaggi Singh, Andrea Ritchie, Kristian Williams, Leslie Spillet, Joaquin Cienfuegos, Billie Pierre, Harsha Walia, Jane Doe, Andrea Pritchett, Dave Bleakney, among many others.
